Trao đổi với phóng viên sáng 22/8, ông Nguyễn Thanh Toại, Phó tổng giám đốc Ngân hàng Á Châu (ACB) cho biết, trong thời gian ông Lý Xuân Hải - Tổng giám đốc nhà băng này bị triệu tập bởi cơ quan điều tra, Phó tổng giám đốc thường trực đồng thời là thành viên HĐQT, ông Đỗ Minh Toàn sẽ tạm thời điều hành hoạt động của ngân hàng này.

 

Đến chiều ngày 23/8, ông Đỗ Minh Toàn đã được HĐQT ACB bổ nhiệm vào chức vụ Tổng giám đốc thay cho ông Lý Xuân Hải.

Ít người biết, người đang tạm thời lèo lái ACB đã từng nằm trong nhóm sinh viên tốp cuối của trường Đại học Ngân hàng TP.HCM. Năm 1989, Đỗ Minh Toàn trúng tuyển khá cao vào hai trường đại học hàng đầu tại TP HCM là Kinh tế và Ngân hàng, song Toàn quyết định chọn ngành ngân hàng, sau khi cân nhắc mọi lẽ. 

Ngay năm đầu, anh đã không theo kịp các môn học về xã hội và "rơi" từ vị trí tốp 3 đầu vào xuống tốp cuối cùng khi kết thúc năm học đầu tiên. Đang được hỗ trợ toàn bộ học phí, anh phải đóng học phí, tạo cho gia đình gánh nặng. Quyết tâm học tập khiến Phó tổng giám đốc ACB lên được tốp 5 vào năm học cuối.

Đây là những dòng mở đầu trong cuốn kỷ yếu của Ngân hàng Á Châu khi nói về Phó tổng giám đốc Đỗ Minh Toàn. Tính đến năm nay, ông Toàn đã có 17 năm gắn bó với ACB, từ vị trí chuyên viên Phòng Đầu tư vào năm 1995. Lúc đó, suy nghĩ của Đỗ Minh Toàn là làm tại đây vài ba năm rồi đi, song môi trường làm việc và công tác đào tạo tại ACB đã tạo cho ông niềm tin và mọi thứ tiến triển theo chiều hướng tốt hơn.

Vị Phó tổng giám đốc thường trực ACB là người Phú Yên, sinh năm 1971. Từ vị trí chuyên viên, ông lần lượt được thăng chức lên phó phòng, trưởng phòng, giám đốc chi nhánh rồi phó tổng giám đốc. 

Nhậm chức phó tổng giám đốc ACB vào năm 2005, đúng 10 năm kể từ khi gia nhập ACB, ông Toàn chia sẻ: “Tôi luôn cố gắng làm tốt công việc được giao dù là những điều nhỏ nhất, và điều đó đã cho tôi niềm tin rằng mình cũng sẽ làm tốt những việc lớn hơn”. 

Trong thời gian phấn đấu, nỗ lực để thăng tiến, Đỗ Minh Toàn cũng đã “kịp” học và lấy thêm 2 tấm bằng cử nhân kinh tế và luật, sau đó là bằng thạc sĩ của Đại học Columbia Southern.

Tại ACB, Đỗ Minh Toàn khá nổi tiếng với quan điểm: “Bạn phải làm đủ lâu nhưng không quá lâu để mắc sai lầm và có đủ thời gian để tự sửa sai”. Theo phó tổng giám đốc 41 tuổi của ACB, trong quản lý, quan niệm “lâu lên lão làng” bị xem là vật cản cần phải loại bỏ và luân chuyển công việc được khuyến khích.

Phụ trách khối khách hàng doanh nghiệp - một trong hai nhánh khách hàng quan trọng của hoạt động bất cứ ngân hàng nào, Đỗ Minh Toàn luôn tâm niệm, cần chia khách hàng để có chế độ chăm sóc thích hợp. 

Ông nói, có những trường hợp ACBvới khách hàng sẽ cùng chia sẻ rủi ro, nhưng cũng có trường hợp “cứng rắn” hơn. Trong bối cảnh các ngân hàng cạnh tranh gay gắt đôi khi không lành mạnh, Đỗ Minh Toàn cho rằng ngân hàng cần phải có bộ máy biết phản ứng nhanh và thích ứng tốt với môi trường kinh doanh. 

Ông đúc kết: “Cần phải coi nhược điểm của ngân hàng thương mại nhà nước là bài học kinh nghiệm cho ngân hàng mình”.

Theo lời ông Nguyễn Thanh Toại - Phó tổng giám đốc ACB, từ sáng sớm ngày 21/8, khi thông tin bầu Kiên bị bắt lan rộng trên thị trường, ACB đã tiến hành họp khẩn cấp để tìm hướng giải quyết tình hình, vì biết sẽ có ảnh hưởng tâm lý dù ông Kiên không còn là thành viên hội đồng sáng lập của ACB.

Sau đó, khi Tổng giám đốc Lý Xuân Hải được triệu tập để điều tra, thì HĐQT đã quyết định cử ông Đỗ Minh Toàn tạm thời điều hành hoạt động.

Việc ACB cử ông Đỗ Minh Toàn lên điều hành tạm thời khi Tổng giám đốc vắng mặt, theo lời ông Nguyễn Thanh Toại, là do quy định khi ông Toàn đảm nhiệm cương vị Phó tổng giám đốc thường trực của ACB. 

Không riêng lần này, từ trước tới nay, mỗi khi Tổng giám đốc Lý Xuân Hải đi vắng, việc điều hành hoạt động đều được giao cho Phó tổng giám đốc thường trực Đỗ Minh Toàn, ông Toại tiết lộ.

Ông Đỗ Minh Toàn sinh năm 1971, quê ở Phú Yên, bắt đầu làm việc tại Ngân hàng Á Châu từ năm 1995.
